Sir John Falstaff, an ageing knight, lover of fine wines and inveterate womanizer who is always short on money, is in urgent need of some financial means to pay off his debts at the inn where he loves to live like a lord. To do so, he intends to win the hearts – and above all fortunes – of two rich bourgeois ladies, Alice Ford and Meg Page, by sending them passionate (and rather ridiculous) love letters. But far from being taken in, the two women discover his plan and decide to take revenge.

Chevalier vieillissant, amateur de bon vin, séducteur invétéré et toujours en manque d’argent, Sir John Falstaff, doit rapidement trouver de quoi rembourser ses dettes à l’auberge où il mène une vie opulente. Pour y parvenir, il compte séduire deux riches bourgeoises, Alice Ford et Meg Page, en leur adressant des lettres d’amour enflammées (et ridicules). Mais loin d’être dupes, les deux femmes découvrent la ruse et décident de se venger.

Sir John Falstaff, edelman op leeftijd, is een notoire drinkebroer en verstokte rokkenjager die altijd in geldnood verkeert. Ook nu moet hij snel een list zien te bedenken om zijn schulden te kunnen aflossen bij de herberg waar hij boven zijn stand leeft. Daartoe richt hij zijn pijlen op de harten – en vooral het fortuin – van twee rijke burgervrouwen, Alice Ford en Meg Page, die hij hartstochtelijke (en belachelijke) liefdesbrieven stuurt. De twee dames doorzien echter zijn list en besluiten wraak te nemen...
